With nothing better to do on a Sunday morning, C, the kids and I decided to go and explore the beach that is right on our doorstep. The tide was quite far out and there were plenty of dog walkers enjoying a surprisingly mild and windless autumnal day. A few pools of water had been left on the beach, and both kids enjoyed splashing in the puddles. Our youngest especially loved stomping about in her wellies and took a few faltering steps, before stumbling and dropping her knees in the water!
In the meantime our eldest was having a full on tantrum with crying, shouting and threats of sand throwing, all because we didn't necessarily share his enthusiasm when it came to shoveling sand with our bare hands. Thankfully he soon calmed down when I compromised and used my boots to dig out the moat of a rudimentary sandcastle. Once he had got bored of this, we had a walk to the shoreline, keeping a watchful eye on our youngest. Our eldest decided to go puddle jumping, only to find one which came up to his thighs - walking round with his wellies overflowing. And, if that wasn't enough, our youngest decided she'd dive full length into the next stretch of water meaning coat and leggings were now soaked. Despite all this, both kids had beaming smiles on their faces as we returned to the car and as one passer by succinctly put it: "A sandy child is a happy child!"
